It wasn't very easy to pick up on the subtle differences between Infiniti Q30 hatchback and the slightly taller QX30 crossover. That confusion must have worked its way into the automaker's ranks, as well, because Infiniti just announced that only the QX30 badge would make its way to the American market.
That doesn't mean Infiniti is just pretending the Q30 never existed. Instead, it's being lumped into the QX30's lineup. Now, the new crossover will have three separate trim levels, each with its own ride height and slight adjustments to kit. We know what you're thinking, and yes, this is all moderately confusing.
What was once the Q30 will now be called the QX30. It will come in front-wheel drive only, and it will share its ride height and equipment with the Q30 that's still being marketed overseas. The QX30 is now the QX30 AWD, which comes with a higher ride height and slightly rougher-looking fasciae. On the other side of the spectrum lies the QX30S, a sporty variant that has a lower ride height, upgraded front brakes and performance wheels and tires.
No matter which car you prefer, the powertrain is the same. Every QX30 comes with a 208-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The cars will go on sale in North America in mid-2016, and you can get up close and personal with 'em at one of the many auto shows taking place this coming year.
